Welcome to Australia class with Jess
and Vietnam class with Tia!
Our Learning in the Autumn Term
This half term we will be concentrating on developing our fluency with number and will be starting by working on place value, addition and subtraction. The children will be comparing, ordering and rounding 5-digit and 6-digit numbers, adding and subtracting 4-digit numbers in multi-step problems, and developing their conceptual understanding through reasoning and problem solving. We will finish the half term with some work on reading and interpreting different types of charts and graphs.
This half term we will begin our learning with a persuasive writing outcome based on the legend of Romulus and Remus and the founding of Rome. The children will be using their newfound History knowledge to write a persuasive letter to the Roman gods, including a range of persuasive writing features that we will be learning how to define and use over the next few weeks. We will aim to understand when persuasive writing is used, how to recognise persuasive language, and how to enhance our own persuasive writing. The children will also be able to immerse themselves in some iconic persuasive speeches that should be an inspiring launchpad for their own writing! In the weeks leading up to half term, we will be studying myths and legends. Our text focus will be King Midas and the Golden Touch. The children will be learning the features of myths and legends and consolidating their understanding of a range of creative writing devices in order to rewrite this legend as a split narrative.
