Year 2 visit the National Portrait Gallery
Year 2 have been learning all about 'The Great Fire of London' this term and as apart of our learning we visited the National Portrait Gallery in London. We viewed paintings of King Charles ll and Samuel Pepys and thought about how it would have been uncomfortable to pose for such a long time whilst an artist painted you! Samuel Pepys even said in his diary he had a neck ache! We discussed King Charles' clothing and the fashion in the 1600s and that perhaps he liked his legs because he had them uncovered from his robe! We retold the events of The Great Fire of London and then had a chance to draw Samuel Pepys and what London would have looked like whilst it was on fire. After lunch in Trafalgar Square we explored the rest of the gallery and viewed lots more paintings of famous people. It is safe to say we had a great day out!
